Here it is ….

“In Hobbes’ memorable description, life outside society would be ‘solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short’.’”

Source: Thomas Hobbes: ‘Solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short’.

As well as “it is only the rule of law and the threat of punishment that keep us in check.”. This is the “Law and *Order*” system in Britain. It’s not called this in the States and they have a higher view of human nature there; that people will thrive WITHOUT too much government control. Whereas the British Psychiatric system is Hobbesian by nature;

“The consequence of this, he argued, was that if society broke down and you had to live in what he called ‘a state of nature’, without laws or anyone with the power to back them up, you, like everyone else, would steal and murder when necessary.”.

OpCit.

Therefore someone showing signs of trauma, “mental illness” (in it’s ‘other’ definition) is somehow a breakdown of the natural order of things and therefore this would lead to extreme consequences; literally that identified person might go on some killing spree, so on and so forth. NO WONDER the results of this enforced Hobbesian punishment just reinforces their view !; toxic psychiatric drugs and ECT that lead to horrible outcomes for the individual and can force people into violent acts;

“The consequence of this, he argued, was that if society broke down and you had to live in what he called ‘a state of nature’, without laws or anyone with the power to back them up, you, like everyone else, would steal and murder when necessary. At least, you’d have to do that if you wanted to carry on living. In a world of scarce resources, particularly if you were struggling to find food and water to survive, it could actually be rational to kill other people before they killed you. In Hobbes’ memorable description, life outside society would be ‘solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short’.’

So we’ve come full circle … “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short” actually describes the result of the APPLICATION of exactly the Hobbesian practices that British Psychiatry believes in and loves so much.It is well known that outcomes for those subjected to British psychiatry are far far worse than the rest of the population. They die earlier. There are suicides and sometimes acts of violence. It creates isolation and despair. You see, ‘solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short’.

“‘The solution, Hobbes argued, was to put some powerful individual or parliament in charge. The individuals in the state of nature would have to enter into a ‘social contract’, an agreement to give up some of their dangerous freedoms for the sake of safety. Without what he called a ‘sovereign’, life would be a kind of hell. This sovereign would be given the right to inflict severe punishment on anyone who stepped out of line. […] Laws are no good if there isn’t someone or something strong enough to make everyone follow them.’”

OpCit.

This is surely corrupt British psychiatry par excellence ! It’s also why so many remain completely silent in the face of horrific abuses in the British psychiatric system. The Hobbesian view has taught them that those people “must” be severely punished.
